چکیده

Sequential Factor Analysis (seqFA) is presented here as an enhanced alternative to multivariate factorial techniques including robust and classical Factor Analysis (FA) or Principal Component Analysis (PCA). A geochemical data set of 145 sediment samples from very heterogeneous, mainly riverine, deposits of the Rhine-Meuse delta (The Netherlands) analyzed for 27 bulk parameters was used as a test case. The innovative approach explicitly addresses the priority issues when performing PCA or FA: heterogeneity and overall integrity of the data, the number of factors to be extracted, and which optimum minimal set of key variables to be included in the model. The stepwise decision process is based on quantitative and objectively derived statistical criteria, yet also permitting arguments based on geochemical expertise. The results show that seqFA, preferably in combination with robust methods, yields a highly consistent factor model, and is favorable over classical methods

Characterization of rare earth elements by coupling multivariate analysis, factor analysis, and geostatistical simulation; case-study of Gazestan deposit, central Iran

The traditional approaches of modeling and estimation of highly skewed deposits have led to incorrect evaluations, creating challenges and risks in resource management. The low concentration of the rare earth element (REE) deposits, on one hand, and their strategic importance, on the other, enhances the necessity of multivariate modeling of these deposits. The wide variations of the grades and ...

Anomaly delineation of porphyry copper deposits of Hanza Region through geochemical data analyses and multispectral remote sensing

Hanza region is located in the southern part of Urumieh–Dokhtar Metallogenic belt in southeastern Iran. This region includes six known porphyry copper deposits and it is considered as an ore- bearing region from geochemical point of view. The aim of this research is to examine effective processing techniques in the analysis of stream sediment geochemical datasets and ASTER satellite images. The...

Chemometrics-enhanced Classification of Source Rock Samples Using their Bulk Geochemical Data: Southern Persian Gulf Basin

Chemometric methods can enhance geochemical interpretations, especially when working with large datasets. With this aim, exploratory hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) and principal component analysis (PCA) methods are used herein to study the bulk pyrolysis parameters of 534 samples from the Persian Gulf basin. These methods are powerful techniques for identifying the patterns of variations i...

Using stream sediment data to determine geochemical anomalies by statistical analysis and fractal modeling in Tafrash Region, Central Iran

Iranian Cenozoic magmatic belt, known as Urumieh-Dokhtar, is recognized as an important polymetallic mineralization which hosts porphyry, epithermal, and polymetallic skarn deposits. In this regard, multivariate analyses are generally used to extract significant anomalous geochemical signature of the mineral deposits. In this study, stepwise factor analysis, cluster analysis, and concentration–...

Geochemical and Environmental Survey of Elements in the Superficial deposits of Caspian Sea sediments: Application of Geoaccumulation Index, Enrichment, and Contamination Factors for Assessing Elemental Contaminations

Many elements such as Arsenic (As), Cadmium (Cd), Copper (Cu), Chromium (Cr), Lead (Pb), Zinc (Zn), and others are major environmental problems due to their toxic nature, nonbiodegradability and accumulative behaviors. There are anthropogenic or geogenic sources that accumulate or rotate elements in sediments. Sediments served as excellent indicator of metal pollution in coastal environments as...
